Just minutes after scoring the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over visiting Comstock, Dowagiac senior Breanna Williams signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her college soccer career at Jackson Community College in Jackson.
“I liked the coach and I enjoyed playing with some of the girls there and I figured it was a team that I would like to play on,” Williams said of her decision. “It’s not so far from home and they offer the program that I want to go into (occupational therapy). They have everything I want there, and again, it’s not that far from home.”
The Jets, led by head coach Andy Hosmer had a 12-5 record despite only returning three players in 2011 and he sees where Williams could fit in right away and help his program.
“Breanna came to an indoor session with our college team and played. She did a great job and I was impressed,” Hosmer claimed. “Unfortunately she hurt her ankle 15 or 20 minutes in and she couldn’t finish it out, but she wanted to and that says tough right there. She is great around the goal and you are always looking for someone that can do that.”
Williams has 22 goals on the season right now for the Chieftains, playing for her father Mike Williams.
“She’s worked hard and she deserves it,” he said. “I think Jackson is a great fit for her. It won’t be too overwhelming for her and she will be able to develop more as a player, and again I think it’s a perfect fit. She will be away from home, but not too far.”
