BUCHANAN – Saturday's Buck Classic II in Buchanan saw the Lady Bucks advance to the championship game with a 16-1, three inning drubbing of Bloomingdale in game one.
Bronson advanced with a 10-0 win over River Valley to set up the title tilt between the Lady Bucks and Vikings.
Bronson scored three runs in the third and Viking pitcher Rachel Wisman held the Lady Bucks scoreless through seven innings to take the Buck Classic championship home.
In the consolation game, it was River Valley holding on for a 7-5 win over Bloomingdale.
Bronson's three runs on three hits and the aid of a Buck error was all that was needed for the Vikings as Wisman scattered the Bucks five hits. The Lady Bucks loaded the bags in the sixth with one out and Alexis Lenox at the plate. A pop fly, caught by the Viking shortstop Jordan Bell, and with all three runners off and running on the hit ball Bell turned the play into a double play to get Wisman out of the jamb and the Buchanan rally was snuffed out.
Ashley Pointer, 11-9, took the loss in the circle for Buchanan striking out eight and walking two and giving up four hits. Wisman also struck out eight and walked two and improved her season record to 14-2.
In the opening game of the day the Lady Bucks scored 10 runs in the third inning to end the game with the 15 run mercy rule. In the game Emily Ross, Julia LaBounty, Hillary Faulkner, and Taylor Krumrie each picked up a pair of singles in the game.
Pointer, Holly Lucas and Jayme O'Bryant hit doubles in the game for the Lady Bucks with Pointer picking up the win striking out five while giving up just two hits and two walks in the three innings of work. Kourtney Harrison was tagged with the loss giving up 12 hits and five walks while striking out four.
