ST. JOSEPH — The Berrien County Parks Commission invites the public to a meeting to discuss and comment on planned park improvements for Silver Beach County Park, located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the St. Joseph River in downtown St. Joseph.
Residents, including people with disabilities, are encouraged to attend. The commission intends for all park improvements to be universally accessible. The meeting will begin 5:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at Love Creek Nature Center, 9292 Huckleberry Rd., Berrien Center.
The commission plans to apply for a grant from the Michigan Natural Recourses Trust Fund for the improvements.
Possible Silver Beach improvements include a universally accessible hard-surface trail with overlook decks and seating connecting to the South Pier, a universally accessible playground with accommodating playground surface, a restroom building, a covered picnic area, electrical power requirements for special events, additional shade structures for sun protection, an improved concession building with possible indoor seating and reconfiguration of the parking area with improved emergency access to the South Pier.
