CASSOPOLIS - Barn Swallow Theatre of Cassopolis presents the play "Waiting for the Parade," written by John Morrell, a leading Canadian playwright.
This warm, wise and winning play is about World War II from the point of view of five women left behind to wait, and to work for their men.
It will bring back poignant memories, including a mother whose two sons have chosen opposite views of the conflict - defending their country on the battlefields, or the right to defend the morality of a pacifist.
You may identify with a young wife and mother, working in a defense factory while her husband serves his country, a young woman whose family ties are of the nationality of the "enemy," a woman whose mission is to provide first aid supplies and comfort packets for soldiers, and the school teacher who tries to educate her students and instill hope and optimism in that bleak era.
It portrays the basic facts that the walking wounded are not always on the battle front.
This play is directed by Ada Barr, a veteran of Barn Swallow Theatre performances since its inception.
Featured are Robin Blume of Edwardsburg, Kelly Danner from Osceola, Danielle Keller and Sue Decker, Cassopolis, and Malinda Parks, Elkhart, Ind.
Performances will be at the Ross Beatty High School on Diamond Cove Road, Cassopolis beginning Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18 at 8 p.m., Sunday, June 19 will be a matinee at 4 p.m.
The play will be featured during Cassopolis' Arts and Music Festival, Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25 and concludes with a matinee on Sunday the 26th at 4 p.m.
All times are DST Michigan times. Ticket price is $12.
