Lynn Moore, 87, of White Oaks Ridge, Buchanan, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Silverbrook Manor, Niles, following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Salina, Kan., to Alva and Gladys (Peterson) Moore. He graduated from high school in Salina and attended Kansas Wesleyan College. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army Air Corps as a first lieutenant, and completing his reserve duty as captain. He moved here from Grand Rapids in 1962.
Mr. Moore owned and operated insurance agencies, including the former Ferguson & Moore Insurance Inc. of Niles, now part of Insurance Management Service.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Niles, where he served on the session as a deacon and an usher.
He was a life member of the B.P.O. of Niles Elks 1322. He was also a licensed pilot and a member of both the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association, and was very active in the Niles Tennis Club.
On Aug. 4, 1946, in Salina, he married the former Mary Jean Howard, with whom he celebrated the 65th anniversary of that wedding last August.
Surviving family includes his wife, Mary Moore, and their son, Larry (Marcia “Rat”) Moore of Niles; grandchildren, Chris (Jessica) Moore, Sean (Christie) Moore and Dane Deyo; great-granddaughters, Isabella, Madeline and Taylor; and Lynn’s brothers and sisters, Charles Moore of Hillsdale, Mich., Gladys Helhorst of Kokomo, Ind., Florence McRae of Salina, and James Moore of Dunwoody, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughters, Kathy Moore, who died in infancy, and Mary K. Moore-Deyo, who died in 1991; a grandson, Michael David Moore, who died Jan. 4, 2010; and a sister, Mae Leiker.
The family of Lynn Moore will receive friends and relatives from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church, Niles, and will gather at a private time for services.
