INDIANAPOLIS – Andrew Smith’s rebound basket with a second left lifted Butler to a 67-65 win over Purdue in the opening game of the Crossroads Classic at Conseco Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

The hometown Bulldogs rallied from 64-58 deficit in the final four minutes to take the lead with 14 seconds left on a basket by Chase Stigall.

Purdue got the ball in the hands of Lewis Jackson, who was fouled going to the basket with 10 ticks left on the clock. After missing his first free throw, Jackson connected on the second to knot the score at 65-65.

Butler got the ball quickly into the front court and called a time out with six seconds remaining.

Roosevelt Jones got the ball near the top of the key and drove the right side of the lane, but missed on his runner. Smith, who had a wide open lane to the basket, grabbed the ball and dropped it in with a second remaining.
