Jan. 17 a half day at high school

NILES – Niles High School students will have a half-day of classes Wednesday, Jan. 17.
No lunch will be provided for the students on this day. All other buildings within the district will be conducting classes as they normally would. The students will follow the schedule below.
7:25 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – professional development for staff only;
11 a.m. – students permitted in building (cafeteria area only);
11:20 a.m. – release bell;
11:25 a.m. – tardy bell;
11:25 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. – fifth block exam;
12:55 p.m. to 1 p.m. – passing;
1 p.m. to 2:32 p.m. – sixth block exam.
Principal Jim Knoll said the teaching staff will be using the day to work on incorporating the new state graduation requirements into the school's curriculum.
In April of last year, the State of Michigan adopted a set of requirements that include four credits of English language arts, four credits of mathematics, three credits of science, three credits of social studies, one credit of health/physical education, one credit of fine arts, two credits of a language other than English, and one credit of an online learning experience.
