Alice McKeel, 92, of Spansail Drive, Niles, died at 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Rose Arbor Hospice, Kalamazoo, following a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Davison, Mich., to Ernest Gaines and Ethel (Brovont) Gaines. She moves from Ohio to Niles in 1952. She retired from Kroger Grocery Store.
She was a member of Ontwa Baptist Church in Edwardsburg, where she volunteered. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in the motorhome and was known by her CB radio handle “Arizona.”
She married Charles Vincent McKeel on July 4, 1955 in Reno, Nev. He died Sept. 28, 1991.
She is survived by a son, Larry (Linda) Brovont of Lawton, Mich.; daughter, Juanita (Bud) Felver of Piqua, Ohio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Vivian Gray of Piqua; several nieces and nephews; and a circle of friends, including Bill and Barb Evans and Joan Pointer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Ontwa Baptist Church in Edwardsburg with Pastor Mike Elsie of the church officiating.
She will be entombed at Mission Hills Chapel Mausoleum in Niles.
Friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
