PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Michigan State and Penn State collected at least a share of their respective division titles Saturday and the Spartans also punched their ticket to Indianapolis to take part in the inaugural Big Ten Football Championship Game.

Michigan State will serve as the Legends Division representative while either Penn State or Wisconsin will participate as the Leaders Division representative.

The Big Ten Football Championship Game will be played Saturday, Dec. 3, at Lucas Oil Stadium with the winner earning the league title and a chance to play in either the Rose Bowl Game or Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game.

Michigan State improved to 6-1 in the conference with one game remaining, but earned at least a share of the Legends Division title and the berth in the Big Ten Football Championship Game based upon its victory over Indiana and Michigan’s defeat of Nebraska.

The Wolverines could still earn a share of the Legends Division title with a victory in their season finale combined with a Spartans loss.

However, since Michigan State defeated Michigan Oct. 15, MSU would win the head-to-head tiebreaker to represent the Legends Division in the Big Ten Football Championship Game.

Penn State is 6-1 in conference action with one game remaining and earned at least a share of the Leaders Division title with their victory at Ohio State. Wisconsin improved to 5-2 in conference with a win at Illinois to remain in contention for at least a share of the division crown and the berth in the Big Ten Football Championship Game.

The Nittany Lions and Badgers are now set to play a winner-take-all regular-season finale when Wisconsin hosts Penn State Saturday. A Nittany Lion win would secure the outright division title and a berth in the title game.

A Wisconsin win would mean that both teams share the division title, but the Badgers would represent the Leaders Division in the title game based on winning the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The inaugural Big Ten Football Championship Game will begin at 8:17 p.m. Saturday, December 3, and will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

FOX will serve as the official broadcast partner of the Big Ten Football Championship Games from 2011-16 and Lucas Oil Stadium will host the title games from 2011-15.
