Walter “Bud” Joseph Skalla, 86, of Niles, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at his residence with his family by his side.

Walter Skalla was born on July 11, 1925, to the late Walter and Catherine (Gradgio) Skalla.

In September 1943, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country.

On July 3, 1958, Walter married the love of his life, Helen (Budd) Skalla, at a ceremony in South Bend.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Skalla and John Skalla; and a sister, Jean Wetmore.

Walter is survived by his wife, Helen Skalla, of Niles; son, Ralph D. Lugenbeal, of Galveston, Ind.; daughter, Peggy Lugenbeal, of Galveston, Ind.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Walter’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.
