It's almost Sum-Sum-Summertime! So what does the YMCA have to offer you? Summer session is about to start the the Niles-Buchanan YMCA and there are a lot of fun activities going on.
Beginning June 12, the Summer Session will kick off. New to the session is Adult Ballroom Dancing. Gather your partner and come dance the night away learning the Swing/Fox Trot or try the Waltz/Rumba/Cha Cha. Wether you have experience or not this class is for you. You will learn to feel comfortable dancing at weddings, social dances and class reunions.
Ok, so you still have to work in the summer and you children are out of school, what to do? Bring them to our summer camps. We have plenty to choose from: Roller Skating camp, The Great Outdoors, Kinder Kamp, Soccer camp, Basketball camp, Messy Kids, All Sports, Wet &Wild and Nature Trails and Hiking. We also have before and after camp child care. These camps are terrific for children. They are not just sitting in front of a television all day – they are active and learning beneficial skills. Before and after care is great for those parents who have to work early or late. it begins in the morning at 6:45 until 8:45 and in the evenings it runs from 4-6 (after care is only for full day campers).
Kinder Kamp is a half day (9 a.m. – noon) camp for children ages 3-6 years-old, where the children will participate in large and small group games, activities, swimming, arts and crafts and much more.
The Great Outdoors Camp teaches children to appreciate the outdoors, gives them the opportunity to accept responsibility, gain self-worth, how to work together and have fun.
During All Sports week, campers will learn to play a variety of games. Basketball Camp week will be headed by George Brawley. He will be instructing basic fundamentals and rules.
Messy Kids Camp is a week filled with arts and crafts and messy activities. This camp also includes a trip to the Berrien County Youth Fair.
Wet and Wild Camp is a week centered around water activities – this camp includes a trip to Silver Beach.
During Nature Trails and Hiking week, the campers will explore many trails at Madeline Bertrand Park.
Roller Skating camp is great for the child who is interested in roller skating. The children signed up for this camp will be going to a local rink and will participate in various games, arts and crafts and swimming.
Last, but not least, Soccer Camp. This is a week where the children will start out in the morning with soccer and still have time in the afternoon for swimming and crafts. This camp is run by Denise Peters and is designed to help children with self-esteem and leadership.
Fitness classes are hotter than ever! Come in the morning or night and try out one of our fun invigorating classes. We have Yoga, Core Fusion, Fit For Life, Step, Cardio Mix, Power Pump, Senior Chair Aerobics, Water Aerobics, Arthritis Water Aerobics, Toning and the newest of them all Stability Ball. Remember, there is a class for everyone. Just stop in or call for more information.
The new YMCA is coming along fast. There are opportunities every month for individuals to have a hard hat tour. If you are interested in touring the new YMCA, please call or stop by the office and sign up at the front desk.
Thought of the week: There is no such thing as too much love.
