Two men arrested in connection with Pokagon Township tree theft

POKAGON TOWNSHIP — Two men accused of stealing a tree from a Pokagon Township property in an attempt to sell it were arrested Tuesday in Colon, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on Saturday, Jan. 4, his office was called regarding a larceny complaint. A large Walnut Tree valued at approximately $2,000 that had been previously cut down was stolen. This larceny occurred in the 61000 block of Old Mill Road in Pokagon Township. Deputies and detectives began to investigate and follow up on tips received.

Tuesday, Jan. 7, detectives responded to a location in Colon along with St. Joseph County Sheriffs Office on information of the suspects were attempting to sell the tree. The stolen tree was located and returned to the owner. A 35-year-old male was arrested on a probation violation warrant. A 51-year-old male was arrested on a parole absconder warrant. Detectives are requesting charges on all suspects involved in the larceny and sale of the tree. Agencies assisting with the investigation were the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, and St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office. This investigation is still ongoing at this time.
