We’ve had our holiday season come and go, much like yesterday’s meatloaf. It feels like every year, we’re just preparing and preparing. We decorate, we volunteer, we shop, we cook, and so on. Now, it’s the time just after the celebrations that feels odd. We’re not really looking forward to much, and we’ve already had all the fun we could. So, now what?
It’s still winter, it’s still snowy (kind of) and it’s still decorated (mostly). Well, now we just move on with the new year and enjoy the little moments. We need to remember to appreciate the small things, like getting your favorite coffee at Starbucks or enjoying a peaceful drive to work.
We always seem to be planning for something big, looking forward to grand events. However, it’s just as important to look forward to and cherish the small moments.
I, for one, love my mornings because they’re typically quite relaxed. I don’t have to start work as early as most, so if I wake up early enough, I can sit in silence and enjoy my morning tea or coffee. I like to use those quiet moments to reflect and find calm.
Most of us get so caught up in what’s next and what we need to prepare for that we forget to appreciate the small joys in life. Personally, I love holding the door for someone and making them smile, or when a stranger at the supermarket says good morning to me.
These small connections—these little moments—make everything so much better. They bring us bursts of joy and peace in life. I sometimes forget this, as we all do.
On a bad day, I might think to myself, “Wow, this whole day is ruined. I just want it to be over so I can restart tomorrow.” But we often overlook that every moment counts.
I try to remind myself that even one second can change my perspective. So, look for happiness and joy in everything you do. Find that “silver lining” and see your day for what it truly is—a blessing.
Peace and love to you all.
