UPDATE: The Sugar Bowl has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday.

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The Allstate Sugar Bowl has been postponed to Thursday after a deadly attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter early Wednesday morning, according to New Orleans NBC affiliate WDSU.

The game, a College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup between No. 2 Georgia and No. 7 Notre Dame, has been rescheduled to 8:45 p.m. Thursday after initially being scheduled for Wednesday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations is investigating the attack as a terrorist attack after ten people were killed and more than 30 were injured in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

Initial reports from New Orleans police indicated that the game would go on as scheduled.

The game has attracted thousands of Notre Dame and Georgia fans to the city, including Niles Mayor Nick Shelton and his family, who were safe from the attack.

“Allison and I celebrated the New Year on Bourbon Street with friends, and woke up to the tragic news this morning,” Shelton said in a statement to Leader Publications. “It’s such a terrible and senseless act. Much of the French Quarter has been shut down as police continue to search and monitor the scene. We are grateful that our friends who are here in New Orleans are safe, and our hearts break for those who were killed or injured.

“Thank you to all who have called and texted us this morning.”
