MILTON TOWNSHIP — A Niles woman was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Milton Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Behnke reports that at approximately 4:15 p.m. Thursday, his deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Runkle Street and Anderson Road in Milton Township.

Investigation shows that a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Gary Vargo, of Dowagiac, was traveling westbound on Runkle Street. Vargo did not see the stop sign due to the stop sign being knocked down. As Vargo entered the intersection of Runkle and Anderson, 44-year-old Lauren Sampson, a Niles resident, was traveling north on Anderson Road and entered the intersection at the same time and was struck by Vargo. Vargo and his three other passengers were checked at the scene by EMS and released. Sampson was transported to Lakeland Niles for injuries sustained in this crash.

Seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

Assisting at the scene was Edwardsburg fire department and SMACS ambulance.
