Dowagiac teen charged with multiple felonies in shooting

DOWAGIAC — A Dowagiac teen has been charged in connection to a Nov. 22 shooting that left one person injured, according to the Dowagiac Police Department.
Marcus Haskins, 18, of Dowagiac, was arraigned on the following charges in Cass County: two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, Dangerous Weapon- Carrying with unlawful intent, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and five counts of Felony firearm. Haskins has a bond set at $300,000 and is currently lodged in the Cass County Jail.
At approximately 11:20 p.m. Friday Nov. 22, Dowagiac Police Department responded to the 300 Block of W. Telegraph St. for a victim with a gunshot wound. During the course of the investigation, officers learned the incident began when three individuals were physically fighting each other. During the assault, Haskins allegedly produced a handgun that he had concealed and began shooting at the victim. Haskins then fled from the scene on foot.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Haskins was identified and taken into custody without incident shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday Nov. 23.
The Dowagiac Police Department thanked Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County Drug Enforcement Team and SMCAS Ambulance service for their assistance with the incident.
