EDWARDSBURG — The Edwardsburg football team ended the regular season in winning fashion Friday night.

The Eddies ran over and around visiting Sturgis to win 62-0 on Senior Night. Edwardsburg led 55-0 at halftime.

“We did what we had to do,” said Edwardsburg coach Dan Purlee. “It was Senior Night tonight, it was good night. We’re looking forward to getting into the postseason next week.”

The Trojans were unable to slow down the Eddies’ Wing-T offense. Edwardsburg scored nine times on plays of 47, 45, 41, 25, 24, 10, 8, 2 and 1 yard. Cameron Hayden, Grady Ostrander, Carson Cebra, Tyrus Yoder, Grant Griffin, Austin Schimings, Marco Montanari and George Purlee found the end zone for the Eddies, who totaled 373 yards of offense.

Edwardsburg finishes the season with a 6-3 record. Purlee said last season’s 5-5 finish has served as motivation throughout the season for his seniors. On the last play of the game, senior quarterback Zeke Pegura, whose season ended due to an injury early in the season, entered the game to take a knee in victory formation.

“This is a great senior group,” Purlee said. “They’ve put in a ton of work all year long, a very committed group. They’ve been huge for us – they’re the heart and soul of this team and we want to keep playing.”

The announcement of the qualifiers and first-round pairings for both the 11 and 8-player playoffs will take place at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, on the “Selection Sunday Show” on FanDuel Sports Network and its website. The playoff qualifiers and pairings will be posted to the MHSAA Website following the Selection Sunday Show, and times and dates will be added Monday, Oct. 28.

The MHSAA Football Playoffs conclude with the 8-Player Finals on Nov. 23 at Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome and 11-Player Finals to be played Nov. 29-30 at Ford Field.

Purlee looks forward to the beginning of the “second season” for the Eddies.

“I feel like we’re getting healthier and we expect to play either Niles or Paw Paw,” Purlee said. “Our guys are excited for the opportunity.”
