Underground Railroad Society wins Michigan Historical Society Award

CASSOPOLIS — The Underground Railroad Society of Cass County announced Monday it has received the Michigan Historical Society 2024 award for Local Society.

URSCC has been a Vandalia-located nonprofit since 2009 with a mission to “Research and educate about Underground Railroad in Cass County, Michigan and restore four buildings as focal points for telling this story.”  Readers are encouraged to visit their www.urscc.org to learn more about the URSCC’s 20-site driving tour, Bonine House Research Library, and three annual events – UGRR Wax Museum, UGRR Days Festival, and Christmas at Bonine House.

URSCC owns and is restoring four Underground Railroad related sites – Bonine House, Bonine Carriage House, Stephen Bogue House and Brownsville School No. 1. Founded in 1828, the Michigan Historical Society is the oldest historical society in Michigan.
