NILES — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has changed traffic patterns on US-12 and M-51 in Niles, as the rebuilding project moves into the next phase.

US-12 traffic have moved to the newly finished westbound lanes. M-51 is open to normal traffic lanes south of Bell Road and north of Fort Street. There will be one lane of M-51 open in each direction between Bell Road and Fort Street while work continues at the US-12/M-51 intersection. Reopening additional lanes will help ease traffic congestion as work continues.

This work is part of the $27 million investment to rebuild the US-12/M-51 intersection, along with rebuilding 1 mile of US-12 and 2.7 miles of M-51.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 383 jobs.
