Police investigate fatal Porter Township crash

PORTER TOWNSHIP — A person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash in Porter Township Friday night, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, deputies of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal traffic crash on Teasdale Lake Street west of Robbins Lake Road in Porter Township.
The initial investigation of the crash showed that a vehicle traveling westbound on Teasdale Lake Street, West of Robbins Lake Road was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control to the right, flipped the vehicle on its top and the vehicle slid down an embankment for approximately 50 yards, hit a tree, and came to rest at the bottom of the embankment. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported by ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for minor injuries.
The passenger involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt. The driver involved in this crash was not wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol and drugs are believed to be a contributing factor in this crash.
