June 11, 1956 – August 31, 2024

Houmphanh “Sam” Ratsamy, 68, of Cassopolis, passed peacefully August 31, 2024 in the comfort of his family’s presence.

His life began June 1, 1956 in Kouap Khong, Laos, born to his mother Chanhpheng, and father Sihanou.

He married Keooudone Vanhphoumy in 2003 in Cassopolis, Michigan. She survives.

Sam came from Laos, where he had been fighting in the war at a young age of 14.

He found his way to America and paved a road for his family to walk on and built a foundation for a beautiful plentiful life. His passion were auto body work, fishing, hunting, and spending time with this family and friends.

He will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty and a helping hand when anyone was in need and his artistic abilities to craft anything that came to mind.

His children’s favorite memories of him are when he provided safety, security, wise words in a time where things were uncertain. Sam’s children gain strength from his words of encouragement such as; “I’m SUPERMAN” “I got shot twice in war and I didn’t die yet” “Pa can fix it, don’t worry” “If there isn’t a way, you find one” “One thing is…” “You have to be strong, smarter, use your brain, think outside the box, and take care of each other.”

Sam taught his children that when life hits you, you hit it harder. He taught them the meaning of creativity, perseverance, perspicacity, and family. Houmphanh has not just made an impact on his family life, he made an impact on everyone he crossed paths with. Houmphanh will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, spouse Keooudone Vanhphoumy of Cassopolis; four daughters, Lisa, Shelia, Phou, Kham Ratsamy, all of Cassopolis; two sons, Keenoy (Darien) Ratsamy, Sr., Khantharee Ratsamy, both of Cassopolis; five grandchildren, Harlyn, Keenoy Jr., Huntleigh, Hazely, Kannon; one sister-in-law, Phetsamone Vanhphoumy; and his father-in-law Bounma Family and friends will gather September 14th, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Wagner Family Funerals Connelly Chapel, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.
