CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis Village Council met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 at the Cassopolis Village Hall.
The trustees approved two resolutions, as well as invoices totaling $212,587.49.
Resolution 2024-8 was approved, allowing village staff to submit an application to the Michigan Township Participating Plan Risk Reduction Grant Program for an amount of $5,000. If awarded, the village would use the funds toward the purchase of police body cameras. Cassopolis has successfully earned funds from the program in the past for the purchase of rubber mulch.
Resolution 2024-9 was also approved, exempting the village from the State of Michigan’s 2011 Public Act 152. The law affects the requirements that public employers pay toward employee medical benefit plans. The village chose to opt out, as the plan currently provided was deemed more beneficial to employees.
Village Manager Emilie LaGrow reported that the Village and Cass County Land Bank Authority will be receiving a fellow from the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan. The fellow will be placed for 15 months and will assist both agencies with projects related to the field of economic development. CEDAM’s Community Development Fellowship program started in 2018, with the goal of assisting Michigan communities in reaching their economic potential. Fellows work in assigned communities, assisting with projects and proposals and providing technical assistance in economic development goals. The Cassopolis fellowship will begin in 2025.
The next Village Council meeting will take place on Monday, October 14th at 6pm. Due to scheduling conflicts and a lack of agenda items, the September Council Workshop Meeting may be canceled.
