Chieftains defeat Rams 21-11 in season opener

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac football team’s season opener was a success last Friday.
The Chieftains defeated South Haven 21-11 to win its first season opener since 2018.
Lamone Moore Jr. tallied 16 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns and Kaleb Smith had 93 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown and Tim Masterman added 52 yards on 10 carries. The Chieftains finished with 327 total yards of offense, 280 of which coming were rushing yards.
Quinten Hill had 12 tackles and one forced fumble and Cooper Symczack had seven tackles and one forced fumble. Masterman added seven tackles and Jamal Williams finished with four tackles, one interception and two fumble recoveries.
The defense held the Rams to 146 yards – 70 rushing and 76 receiving.
