CASSOPOLIS — Community members, partners, and friends gathered at the Cassopolis Family Clinic Network Thursday to celebrate the reopening of the Cassopolis Family Clinic Dental to better serve residents.
The Cassopolis Family Clinic Network’s Board of Directors hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion, were the Cassopolis/Vandalia Chamber of Commerce, local dignitaries and lead dentists were on hand to celebrate an occasion they believe marks a new day in dental care for the communities Cassopolis Family Clinic Network serves.
“It’s Mission accomplished,” “It’s been mothballs for years now. It’s a beautiful facility and we’ve got people that we need to serve.”
CFCD services include preventative services such as exams, cleanings, X-Rays, fluoride and sealants. In addition, dental procedure offerings include fillings, extractions, root canals, bridges, crowns, dentures, space maintainers and more. CFCN offers dental services for people who do not have dental insurance or are covered by Michigan Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Delta Dental.
“We know that people neglect their dental health and they don’t have that many options and people that are on Medicaid or Medicare or have no ability to pay – they are all welcome,” said CFCN Executive Director Joseph Gavan. “Here, we have a sliding scale so if they can’t afford to pay anything, that’s fine. We want to take care of them; That’s how we’re designed, and that’s why we exist. We’re trying to spread the word people know, and that we’re here and that we’re open for business.”
After opening its doors in 2014, CFCD was forced to close in June 2022 due to staffing issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. The clinic currently has two full-time dentists and the schedule is filling up.
“Because of COVID, we could not get doctors,” said Dental Office Manager Melanie. “Luckily with the board’s help and everything, we were able to get new doctors to open.”
For Gavan, having the dental clinic up and running again allows CFCN to better serve residents with its integrated care.
“So Parents or a guardian sets up a meeting or an appointment for dental for their child. They could, an hour later, go and have the medical wellness check as well and then before they leave, they can go to the pharmacy,” Gavan said. We have Behavioral Health right here under this roof as well. That is the model that we love because it is integrated. You’re seeing the same people, you’re coming to a familiar facility. If you have transportation challenges, you can get a lot done while you’re here. We like that about this place and we think our patients do as well.”
Dental services are offered from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information or to schedule an appointment please call (269) 228-8500.
