Hilda Jane Afman, 86, of Three Rivers, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at Birch Meadows Senior Care surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 17, 1938 in Plainwell, the daughter of William and Iola (Brown) Giesbrecht, and graduated from Plainwell High School prior to attending Bob Jones University.

Hilda married her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Afman, on August 3, 1957. The two shared 64 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling together, especially to Florida.

She worked as a secretary for Cassopolis Public Schools in the transportation, administration, and middle school offices. Hilda loved to read and to swing on her glider rocker.

She shared her beautiful voice as a singer and choir leader at Volinia Baptist Church in Volinia, Mi. She was quietly mischievous and extremely competitive – a loving woman liked by many.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Mark (Rebecca) Afman; daughters, Jane Harrison and Faith (Michael) Rowe; grandchildren, TSgt. (Ret.) Steve (Laura) Harrison, Daniel Harrison, MSG Adam (Diana) Harrison, Jacob (Ashley) Rowe, and Lindsey Johnson; great-grandchildren: MaKynna, Madisyn, Zackery, Lucy, Sam, Seth, Scott, and Hendrix Harrison, Ashleigh, Faith, Ethan, Rachel, and Samantha Johnson, and Ace Rowe; and brother, David Giesbrecht.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Joy Marie Afman; sisters, Lorraine and Maxine; and sister-in-law, Shirley Giesbrecht.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, August 29, 2024 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Newberg, 13021 Born St., Jones. A funeral service will follow at noon at the church with Pastor Mike Owen officiating. She will be laid to rest in Poe’s Cemetery.
