NILES — After a summer away, students from across the area returned to school this week for the 2024-2025 school year.

In Buchanan, Buchanan Community Schools elementary, middle and high school students jumped into the new year with a full day of classes.

“There’s lots of excitement in buildings,” said Superintendent Patricia Robinson. “Students were attentive and there’s lots of positive energy here in the high school.”

Robinson visited the buildings in the district and noted that teachers had begun teaching on the first day of school.

“Setting expectations and routines from the start really helps ensure that the remainder of the year is productive,” Robinson said. “The students are aware of what is expected of them. It has been a very positive opening to the school year.”

Robinson is entering her fifth year as BCS Superintendent and is looking forward to seeing academic growth throughout the district. The district is entering its third year of an English Language Arts program for its second and third graders and an ELA program for sixth and seventh graders. In addition, the high school has begun offering an advanced chemistry course and an advanced placement government course.

“I’m excited to see that continue to generate interest,” Robinson said.

As the school year progresses, Robinson looks forward to see the continuation of the community pride the district is known for.

“We have a number of clubs that high school students are able to be a part of. Our entire district gets involved in spirit week and our traveling parade, which generates a lot of pride in our students. Seeing the parents and families at different events throughout the year, it’s nice to see the community get involved with the district.”
