DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac boys soccer team came up short against Three Rivers in its season-opener Friday night.
The Wildcats used a strong first half to defeat the Chieftains 3-1. Three Rivers led 2-0 entering the second half, where Dowagiac’s Eli Stout scored the team’s lone goal. An own goal in Three Rivers’ favor rounded out the scoring.
“We started off a little slow in the first half,” said head coach Joseph Pasternak. “We fell into a kick ball game and we were not staying in shape. We gave up a couple early goals in the first half. I thought the boys played much better in the second half – our mids settled down and kept their shape which really stopped a lot of the attacks we were giving up in the first half. We had our chances in the second half to come away with a win but just couldn’t finish them. For the first game of the season I liked what I saw today.”
Dowagiac (0-1) will face Parchment at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Parchment.
