NILES — The Niles and Edwardsburg cross country teams kicked off the 2024 season at the Viking Stampede in Madeline Bertrand Park Friday morning.

Marshall’s Reece Davis placed first overall with a time of 16:08 and Plainwell’s Claire Vos took first in the girls race with 20:40. 

Niles’ boys team placed fourth overall with 96 points and the girls team second with 74 points. Edwardsburg’s boys team finished second with 48 points and the girls team fourth with 95 points. Plainwell swept the girl’s and boy’s titles but Niles’ Charlie Drew placed second in the girls race with a time of 21:05 and Claire DevlescHoward seventh with 22:27. Edwardsburg’s Kennedy Kaylor (24:37) and Grace Leman (24:39) placed 15th and 16th respectively.

On the boys side, Edwardsburg had three runners finish in the top 10 – George Scupham (16:49) in fourth, Maguire Johnson (16:52)  fifth and Reed Gates (17:50) ninth. Niles siblings Beau (18:17) and Ceon Kirkdoll (18:34) placed 11th and 15th respectively.
