NILES — A motorcycle-deer crash sent a South Bend man to the hospital with injuries Tuesday evening.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash at approximately 8:58 p.m. on Calvin Center Road near Mason Street in Mason Township.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and found that Joshua William Stillwagon 40, of South Bend, was traveling southbound on Calvin Center Road when a deer ran out in front of him. Stillwagon was unable to avoid the deer and was injured. He was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for his injuries. Alcohol was not a factor.

Deputies were assisted by SEPSA Fire and Edwardsburg Ambulance . The crash remains under investigation.
