EDWARDSBURG — Edwardsburg Public Schools has announced it will be partnering with Camp Fire River Bend, Inc., to offer before and after school care to students in grades K-5 during the 2024-2025 school year.
Care would be offered at the Intermediate School from 7:15 a.m. to start time in the mornings and from the end of school until 6 p.m. in the afternoons. Second and third grade students will ride the shuttle bus to and from Eagle Lake Elementary.
Camp Fire River Bend CEO Dr. Amber Grundy, an Eddie parent herself, presented to the Board of Education twice this year providing it with an overview of before and after school care and what it could look like in EPS, based on what her organization has provided to other schools.
At the July board meeting, Edwardsburg Public School’s Board of Education voted to support the addition of before and after school care provided by Camp Fire River Bend for the 2024-2025 school year.
“After hearing the overwhelming feedback during our strategic planning discussions that this was an immediate need, providing this service to our Eddie families became a priority,” said Superintendent Dr. Courtney Szucs. “We have heard from numerous families about the necessity for reliable before and after school care, but to make sure we are staffed appropriately and have enough space, we are starting small with an initial 36 slots, contingent upon licensing.”
Dr. Szucs said the goal is to expand the program over the next few years to accommodate more families.
“There are many parents whose work schedules do not align with our elementary start and end times,” she said. “Offering this program will provide our Eddie families with a much needed resource.”
Registration information will be provided soon. Leaderpub.com will be updated as more information becomes available.
