In the unique position to know personally the Chairs of both the Cass and Berrien County Commissions, I am asking voters to support each in his bid for reelection.

Cass County Board Chair Jeremiah Jones seeks reelection in District 4, City of Dowagiac and Pokagon Township. A 25-year Army veteran, Sergeant First Class Jones served our nation during three combat tours (Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan), and he has never stopped serving the people here at home.

I witnessed what had to be one of the great challenges in Jeremiah’s position as Cass chair when a Cass Board policy was being challenged by activists from outside the county and our state. When I arrived at the meeting, activists and supporters occupied three overflow rooms and the hallway. Jeremiah presided with the patience and grace I’ve come to expect from him. This great man represents his constituents with integrity.

I saw similar qualities in Berrien County District 10 Commissioner and Board Chair Mac Elliott when he presided over a meeting that drew over 100 protesters. He graciously kept peace and order, buoyed by his skills as one of Michiana’s most ethical and effective lawyers.

Jeremiah and Mac tower above their offices. When reelected, the great work they’ve done will continue to benefit the people of Cass and Berrien counties, respectively.

Carla Johnson,

Buchanan
