Seven local players earn all-state status

NILES — Seven area baseball players earned Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State honors for the 2024 season.

Brandywine had a trio of players named to the Division 3 All-State team.

Outfielder Drew Deming was named first-team all-state, while brothers Jaremiah (outfielder) and Jamier Palmer (infielder) were second-team selections.

Ryder Richard, the Bobcats’ catcher, was an honorable mention pick.

Edwardsburg Payton Bookwalter, who earned all-district and all-region, was named second-team Division 2 All-State as an outfielder.

Jaremiah Palmer, who also earned all-district and all-regional honors, hit .433 with five doubles, two triples and 18 stolen bases. Jamier Palmer, who also was all-district and all-regional, hit .423 with four doubles and 52 stolen bases. Palmer, who is the first Brandywine male athlete to be named all-state all four years in a single sport, finished with 177 stolen bases, which is third all-time in the State of Michigan.

Palmer will also play in the MHSBCA East-West All-Star Game at Comerica Park in Detroit July 18.

Ryder, also a member of the all-district and all-regional teams, hit .402 with four doubles, 39 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

Brandywine’s Robby Dillard and Buchanan’s Nick Finn were all-district selections.

 

Division 2

Niles’ Brian Gonzalez and Brenden Olsen were both honorable mention selections.

They were also all-district and all-regional.

Also named all-district for the Vikings were Talon Brawley, Carson Rachels, Jaxen Racht and Alex Cole.

Gonzalez was 7-3 on the mound with an ERA of 2.29. He struck out 68.

Olsen hit .422 with 32 RBIs, 31 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.

Brawley hit .287 with 17 RBIs, 27 runs scored and seven stolen bases, while Rachels hit .337 with 14 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Racht was 6-2 on the mound with an ERA of 2.25. He struck out 78.

Cole hit .367 with 12 RBIs, 33 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.
