Seven players named Division 2 All-District

DOWAGIAC — Division 2 District softball host Dowagiac and champion Edwardsburg had numerous players named to the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association All-District squad.

All-district is the first step in the all-state process. Players named all-district are then put up for all-region. Anyone named all-regional is eligible to earn Division 2 All-State status.

The Eddies had Sydney Klaer (outfield), Ella Zache (third base) and Victoria Pulling (pitcher) selected, as well as Todd Tighe being named the District Coach of the Year.

Dowagiac had Aubrey Busby (outfield), Bryanna Behnke (second base) and Marlie Carpenter (at-large) selected.

Niles’ Kayla Kiggins earned all-district as a catcher.

Klaer hit .456, including 14 doubles, a triple, and three home runs with 33 RBIs. Her OBA was .486. Zache hit .360 with eight doubles, six home runs and 33 RBIs. She had an OBA of .435.

Busby hit .517 on the year with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 34 RBIs. Behnke hit .436 with 10 doubles, a triple, a home run and 53 RBIs. She had an on-base percentage of .484. Carpenter hit .529 with 17 doubles, four triples, a home run and 52 RBIs. She had an OBA of .593.

Kiggins hit .439 with 12 doubles, five home runs and 24 RBIs. She had a slugging percentage of .682.
