Bucks upset Brandywine in semifinals, fall to Bees in title game

CONSTANTINE — Rival Buchanan upset No. 9-ranked Brandywine 2-1 in the Division 3 District Baseball semifinals at Constantine High School Saturday.
The Bucks scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the 2-1 victory over the Bobcats.
Buchanan (12-21) was defeated in the district championship game by Bridgman 7-1.

With the game deadlocked at 1-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Bucks used three walks and a fielder’s choice play to score the game-winner.
Brody Lange started the winning rally by drawing a lead-off walk from pitcher Bobcat Ethan Adamczyk. Nick Finn followed with a walk before Holden Carrington laid down a bunt off Brandywine pitcher Robby Dillard to load the bases with no outs.
Jake Franklin drew the third walk of the inning, which allowed Lange to trot home with the winning run.
The Bobcats (22-8) drew first blood with a run in the second inning on a Dillard single and a Jaremiah Palmer double.
The Bucks tied the score at 1-1 in the sixth inning as with one out, Ari Johnson singled, moved to second on a fielder’s choice bunt by Tyler Baker and scored on a Connor Billington fly ball to left field.
Both teams had four hits.
Buchanan’s were all singles, while Brandywine got the double from Palmer.
Lange earned the victory in relief as he got the final out of the contest. Landon Nelson pitched six and two-third innings, allowing 1 run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Adamczyk, one of four Bobcat pitchers, took the loss.

The Bees broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth, and then scored four more in the fifth, to seal the victory and earn the district championship.
The Bucks had five hits in the contest, including a double by Lange.
Lucas Zeiger, who started for Buchanan, suffered the loss.
