DOWAGIAC — Visiting Three Rivers eliminated the Dowagiac soccer team from the Michigan State High School Athletic Association Division 3 District with 5-1 win Wednesday night.
The Wildcats got a pair of goals from Tori Thorbjornsen, who also had an assist.
Natalie McGahan added a goal and two assists as Three Rivers took a 3-0 halftime lead.
The Chieftains scored the first goal of the second half when xx found the back of the net.
McGahan and Kenna Cottingham scored the second-half goals for the Wildcats in the final 40 minutes to secure the victory and advance Three Rivers to the semifinals against Constantine Tuesday.
Paige McDonald and Cottingham each had an assist.
“The girls played a good game today,” said Dowagiac Coach Joey Pasternak. “We moved the ball well, it just came down to who made less mistakes. We gave up a couple back side goals in the first half and just couldn’t recover. I was proud of the progress we made this year being such a young team and to see the improvements from beginning to end of season was good.”
