Niles defeats Sturgis for piece Wolverine baseball crown

STURGIS — The Niles baseball team earned a share of the Wolverine Conference championship with a 4-1 win over host Sturgis in the conclusion of a game from April 26.
The Vikings (21-8, 12-2) share the league championship with Vicksburg.
Niles and Sturgis played a non-conference game as well Wednesday with the Vikings winning 6-2.
Niles scored four runs on nine hits against the Trojans.
The Vikings built a 4-0 lead before Sturgis broke up the shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Brenden Olsen was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Alex Cole was 2-for-3 with a double.
Josh McIntosh worked the first two inning of the contest. Brian Gonzalez would pitch the final five innings. The two combined to toss a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
In the second game, the Vikings scored six runs on seven hits, led by Bryce Zache, who was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Niles used three pitchers in the contest. Logan Olsen, the third Viking to take the hill, earned the victory. Combined, the trio of hurlers tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
