DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac golf team had little trouble winning back-to-back Lakeland Conference championships.
After going 5-0 in league jamborees, the Chieftains rolled to an easy victory in the conference tournament, which it hosted at Hampshire Country Club Thursday.
Dowagiac shot 351 as a team, which was 44 strokes better than runner-up Berrien Springs, which shot 395.
“Great to repeat as conference champs!,” said Dowagiac Coach Bob Turner “We showed it is a team thing. We had one of our top players have an off day and his teammates picked him up. We had personal bests from Jeremiah Bond (88), Ashton Scherer (94) and Luke Spagnoli’s 83 is one of his best if not his best. It was close early on and Berrien was pretty close for a while but we pulled away late on the back nine. Still have some work to do.”
Buchanan was third with a 404 and Brandywine fourth with a 417. Benton Harbor did not participate in the tournament.
The Shamrocks Carson Tripped earned medalist honors with his round of 80 on the Dogwood Course at Hampshire.
Austin Gregory led Buchanan with a 98, while Brandywine got a 101 from Xander Curtis.
