BUCHANAN — Weather played havoc with the local softball schedule as several doubleheaders turned into single games due to thunderstorms rolling through the area late Monday afternoon.

At Buchanan, the much-awaited showdown between No. 2-ranked (Division 2) Vicksburg and No. 3 ranked (Division 3) was limited to a single game as the Bulldogs defeated the Bucks 8-2 before the storms forced the cancelation of the nightcap.

Vicksburg took charge of the game with a five-run first inning. The Bulldogs led 6-0 before Buchanan cut their lead to 6-2 after four innings.

Vicksburg added a pair of single runs in the fifth and sixth to seal the victory.

The Bulldogs had nine hits and scores six earned runs off of Hailee Kara, who suffered the loss.

Buchanan (27-3) finished with seven hits and committed three errors.

Camille Lozmack had a home run for the Bucks. Hannah Herman was 2-for-3. Julia Prenkert also had a pair of hits.

The visiting Vikings built up an 8-0 lead on the Shamrock, including four runs in the top-half of the seventh in cruising to the victory.

Berrien Springs averted the shutout with a run in the bottom-half of the seventh.
