Roundup: Chieftain undefeated in jamborees; Ranger close in on title

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac golf team will head into the Lakeland Conference Tournament with a perfect 5-0 record in jamborees.
The Chieftains, who are the defending league champions, won their fifth consecutive jamboree as the Lakeland wrapped up the regular season at Hampshire Country Club Friday.
Dowagiac shot 175 to easily defeat runner-up Brandywine, which shot 212. Buchanan, which is currently in second-place, finished fourth at Hampshire as one of its top golfers was participating in the Division 3 Regional Track Meet in Bangor.
Berrien Springs placed third with a 216 and the Bucks shot 243. Benton Harbor did not have a full team and did not post a score.
The Chieftains swept the top four spots in the individual scoring, led by Travis Rehborg, who shot 40 to earn medalist honors.
Dowagiac also got a 42 from Luke Spagnoli, a 44 from Dane Spagnoli and a 49 from Jeremiah Bond.
Xander Curtis led the Bobcats with a round of 49. Austin Gregory shot 51 for the Bucks.
The Lakeland Conference will wrap up its season with the league tournament at Hampshire Country Club Thursday on the Dogwood Course.
Southwest 10 Golf
Defending league champion Cassopolis increased its league with a win at the conference jamboree hosted by Comstock at Eastern Hills.
The Rangers shot 153 as a team, while White Pigeon was second with a 181. The host Colts finished third with a 191, while Centreville also shot 191, but lost out on the tiebreaker and finished fourth.
Marcellus did not post a team score.
Cassopolis’ Trystan Grant earned medalist honors as he shot a 37.
William Westrate finished with a 38, while Dickson Smadder and Kenny May both finished with a 39. Turner Westrate finished with a 42 and Alan Weger a 44.
