RICHLAND — It was a big weekend for area track athletes as the Michigan High School Athletic Association hosted its Division 2 and Division 3 Regional Meets at Gull Lake and Bangor high school, respectively.

In Division 2, Niles led the way with eight qualifiers.

The Vikings’ Ayden Mccarey led the way with a pair of regional championships as he won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.99 and the 400-meters with a clocking of 49.27.

Also qualifying for Niles were Jaden Ivory, who was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 20-11. Ethan Chambliss finished third in the high jump with a height of 6-2, while the Vikings’ 400-meter relay team of Julian Means-Flewellen, Peyton Gordon, Alex Anderson and Sam Rucker finished third with a time of 44.33.

Brandon Hamilton finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 50-7.5.

Niles did not have any girls qualify.

Edwardsburg’s 1,600-meter relay team brought home a regional championship as the team of Kya Bryant, Mobius Stubblefield, Jack Bell and Dylan Leep posted a time of 3:30.81. The Eddies’ 3,200-meter relay team of Dane Bailey, Zach Rausch, Maguire Johnson and George Scupham ran a time of 8:18.84 to finish second and qualify for the state finals.

Also qualifying for Edwardsburg were Aydon Goorhouse in the high jump (6-2), Larson Fessenden in the discus (157-6) and the shot put (49-10) and Stubblefield in the 400-meters (50.90).

Dowagiac three state qualifiers, all of whom were runners-up in their events.

Joshua Winchester-Jones ran a time of 50.68 in the 400-meters, while Owen Saylor ran times of 1:58.90 and 4:22.80 in the 800- and 1,600-meters, respectively.

On the girl’s side, Edwardsburg’s Sarah Pippin was the regional champion in the high jump with a height of 5-3.

The Chieftains did not have any state qualifiers.

 

Division 3

At Bangor, Buchanan won the only regional champion in the boy’s portion of the meet.

The Bucks’ 3,200-meter relay team of Liam McBeth, Jacob Kuntz, Jack Sherwood and Britain Philip ran a time of 8:22.25.

Other qualifiers for Buchanan were Philip in the 300-meter hurdles (41.28) and the Bucks’ 1,600-meter relay team of Sherwood, McBeth, Carson Deming and Philip (3:32.20).

The Rangers’ Jadyn Brown qualified in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.44. Aarenn Buck-Hooper qualified in the 100-meters with a time of 11.19 and Jaylen Pratt in the high jump with a height of 6-0.

Kevin Roberts was a multiple state qualifier for the Bobcats. He was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 20-5 and the pole vault with a height of 13-0. He was also a member of the qualifying 400-meter relay team, which also consisted of Elijah Gamble, Kaden Santana and Kaeden Warfield. That unit posted a time of 44.88.

Buchanan’s Audrey Lietz was the only regional champion for the Bucks’ track team as she won the 200-meters with a time of 26.53.

Also qualifying for the state finals for the Bucks was its runner-up 1,600-meter relay team of Lietz, Madeline Young, Ava Graham and Alaina Nagel, which ran a time of 4:18.80 and Zoe Griggs in the shot put with a toss of 33-10.5.

Lily Gill qualified for Brandywine in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.39 and was member of the winning 800-meter relay team, which posted a time of 1:49.88, which also consisted of Allison Fedore, Karleigh Byrd and Mackenna Price. Gill teamed with Fedore, Bryd and Price to finish as the runner-up in the 400-meter relay, which finished with a time of 51.68.

That same unit was the runner-up 400-meter relay with a time of 51.68. Fedore, Price, Miley Young and Byrd qualified in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:23.99.

Price also qualified in the long jump with a leap of 16-1.

Cassopolis’ Ryley Bowsher was the regional champion in the long jump with a leap of 16-6.75.
