DOWAGIAC — Fundraising for Dowagiac Connected’s annual fireworks display has begun with a donation from Honor Credit Union. This marks the tenth year in a row that Honor has given to the fireworks, which are now in their eleventh year.

“We are really proud to support this event. It’s a great day for the community to come together and enjoy a night out with their families, and it’s truly something everyone can appreciate,” said Janie Reifenberg, Community Development Officer at Honor Credit Union. 

“This is kind of our flagship event and a favorite for a lot of us,” added Rachel Breden of Dowagiac Connected. “There is something a bit nostalgic about the weekend and neighbors gathering together for cookouts before the show. Life moves so fast these days, but the fireworks are a good time to slow down, get outside, and enjoy a good old-fashioned community event.”

This year’s show is slated for June 28 at dusk around the airport. Like last year, it will feature food and toy vendors at Russom Park and surrounding areas. More details will be released as the event draws near, and updates can be viewed on the Dowagiac Connected Facebook page.

“We are so grateful for the strong community support we receive each year from partners like Honor,” Breden said. “Honor has been a dedicated and enthusiastic supporter for ten years. When we approached them this year, they gave an instant and hearty “yes”, and it makes me proud to be part of something that brings so much excitement to our community. We have other donors who are faithful to give as well. This event would not happen without them. “

The fireworks show is funded entirely by community donors. Dowagiac Connected’s rebrand from Young Professionals earlier this year came with a new website which now allows them to collect online donations.
