Fifth-ranked Bucks roll to Lakeshore Tournament championship

STEVENSVILLE — The No. 5-ranked Buchanan Bucks rolled to the Lakeshore Tournament championship Saturday afternoon.
The Bucks blanked Edwardsburg and Lakeshore, both honorable mention selection in the latest Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association ranks. Buchanan closet competition in Stevensville on Saturday came against unranked Chelsea, who the Bucks defeated 12-8.
Buchanan defeated Edwardsburg 9-0 behind strong pitching, timely hitting and flawless defense.
Hailee Kara worked the first four innings to earn the victory, allowing no runs on one hit. Keegan May gave up five hits, but did not allow a run with the help of the Bucks’ defense, which did not commit an error.
Buchanan finished with nine hits, led by Camille Lozmack, who was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Faith Bartley was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Bailey Trail added a triple and Hannah Herman had a solo home run.
Against the Lancers, the Bucks had 14 hits, got another strong pitching performance from Kara and did not commit an error on defense.
Kara scattered five hits and struck out three.
Lozmack was 3-for-4 once again with a triple and an RBI. Herman was 3-for-3 with triple and two RBIs, while Aspen Berry and Bartley both had two hits.
May and Berry both doubled for the Bucks, who got a triple from Caitlyn Horvath.
Chelsea is one of the few teams to have challenged the Bucks this season.
Buchanan used a six-run sixth inning to pull away. The Bucks added two runs in the seven to secure the victory.
Lozmack worked into the sixth inning, giving up eight runs on 10 hits. Kara came on in the sixth and finished the game.
Buchanan had another 13 hits, led by May, who was 3-for-4 with double and two RBIs.
Herman, Lozmack and Cameron Carlson all had two hits for the Bucks. Bartley, Herman and Carlson all doubled.
Buchanan, with in the other two contests, did not commit an error on defense.
