NILES — The Dowagiac golf team moved a step closer to defending its Lakeland Conference championship as it captured the jamboree at Plym Park Thursday.

The Chieftains shot 182 to defeat runner-up Buchanan by 12 strokes. Berrien Springs finished third with a 197 and Brandywine fourth with a 203. Benton Harbor did not have enough golfers to post a team score.

Dowagiac’s Luke Spagnoli earned medalist honors as he shot a 42.

The Chieftains also got a 46 from Travis Rehborg, a 47 from Dane Spagnoli and a 47 from Jeremiah Bond.

Buchanan was led by Austin Gregory’s 44. Brady Wright shot 46 to lead Brandywine.
