CONSTANTINE — Maggie Weller scored a first-half goal in Dowagiac’s 1-1 draw with host Constantine.
The Chieftains outshot the Falcons, but could not find the back of the net.
“Our youth and inexperience showed today,” said Dowagiac Coach Joey Pasternak. “We fell asleep and didn’t come focused from the jump. We didn’t win the 50/50 balls and we waited for things to happen instead of making them happen. We didn’t do the little things that it takes to win the game.”
The Chieftains played short-handed in the non-conference match.
“We have been missing a few key starters that will help a lot when they come back” Pasternak said. “We haven’t been able to put the same group of girls on the field all season and it shows in our inconsistency in games. The girls are playing hard but we have to figure out how to win games and put everything together. The younger girls have come a long way and are doing a good job filling in with more experience we will continue to grow.”
Niles at St. Joseph
The Vikings were shutout in a battle of former SMAC West Division foes 8-0.
Ella Dykstra had five goals for the Bears, who also got a pair of goals from Beatrice Lapekas.
Otsego at Edwardsburg
The Eddies were blanked in their Wolverine Conference contest 4-0 by visiting Otsego.
The win kept the Bulldogs a game back of league leaders Plainwell and Vicksburg, both of whom are 3-0 on the year.
