Buchanan edges Dowagiac 3-2 in Lakeland action

DOWAGIAC — Visiting Buchanan improved to 2-0 in Lakeland Conference girls soccer action with a 3-2 win over Dowagiac Wednesday night.
The Bucks (3-1-1) scored a pair of first-half goals to take a 2-0 halftime lead against the Chieftains, who fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in Lakeland matches.
Dowagiac rallied in the second half, outscoring Buchanan 2-1, but could not overcome the early deficit.
“Played a really good game today,” said Dowagiac Coach Joey Pasternak. “We controlled most of the game and had a lot of opportunities and just could not find the back of the net as much as we should have. We have a very young team and a lot of girls were playing their first high school game. We have a good outlook for the season if we continue to play this way.”
Evyn Pruett led the Bucks with a pair of goals, while Belle Overmyer scored the other goal for Buchanan, which outshot Dowagiac 20-4.
Chloe Brewer and Johanna McDonald had the goals for the Chieftains, who how their annual tournament on Saturday.
