Ontwa Ambulance Board receives $60,000 from township to offset deficit

EDWARDSBURG — The Ontwa Township Board of Trustees gave the Ambulance Board $60,000 its current deficit at its regular monthly meeting Monday.
The Ambulance Boards reported that the ambulance budget ended with a $16,000 deficit.
A motion was also made and passed to have trees removed and a privacy fence installed near the ambulance building.
Supervisor Jerry Marchetti reported that the Board of Commissioners meeting originally scheduled for April 4 had been rescheduled for April 11. He also reported positive progress on the renovation and remodel of the historic courthouse in Cassopolis. An open house will be announced to celebrate the Courthouse, which will be celebrating 125 years in existence.
The Cass County Road Commission is hosting a Hazardous Waste Collection event on April
24 from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Commission office. The Township Clean-up Day will take place Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Fire Board reported that the Edwardsburg Fire Department will be hosting classes, one of which will be on dealing with fires related to electric vehicles. The department received grants in the amount of $20,000 for new equipment and $9,500 from DUO Form Plastics for new helmets. They have been applying for other grants. John Hanson also resigned from the Fire Board.
First quarter zoning reports for 2024, as well as reports spanning the year of 2023, were handed out at the meeting. The committee will be meeting to begin work on updating building codes.
In other business:
• The permit for fireworks at Garver Lake was approved unanimously.
•. Three resolutions to adopt ballot language for various mileages were unanimously approved. • The language was for the renewal of the fire and ambulance services millage, the renewal of the police department millage, and the renewal of the ambulance service millage renewal.
• The next regular Township Board meeting will take place on May 13. Other meetings include the Police Board on April 11, the Wastewater Board on April 24, and the Planning Commission on May.
