CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis Village Council met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday at the Cassopolis Village Hall.
During public comment, concerns were again raised regarding the state of the property at 116 South O’Keefe Street. A tent, loud noises, and rodents have all been reported at or around the property.
The village has previously stated that the matter is moving through the legal system.
Trustee Kimberle Danzy-Yeager questioned the yearly expense of rubber mulch on village property. According to Village Manager Emilie LaGrow, the mulch is regularly kicked out and destroyed, requiring replacement, but $5,000 of the expense is covered by a grant each year.
During her report, LaGrow reported a “great turnout” at the Cassopolis/Vandalia Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event the previous week. She expressed that the council should encourage businesses to join.
Part One of the Imagine Center Community Collab will take place on Thursday, April 11 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Sam Adams Elementary. The event is designed to give the community a chance to provide feedback about the proposed project and possible services, including childcare, recreation, and library services.
The 2024 Beach Bash at Stone Lake Beach is scheduled for Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1. The event features music, activities, food, and fireworks. Volunteers are currently needed. More information can be found at cassopolismainstreet.com/beach-bash.
