DOWAGIAC — No injuries were reported following a Monday morning house fire, according to the Dowagiac Fire Department.
At approximately 05:10 a.m. Monday, the Dowagiac Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 106 Lincoln St., Dowagiac. Multiple callers confirmed smoke and flames were visible. As part of an automatic aid agreement, the Wayne Township Fire Department was dispatched simultaneously and responded to the scene with an engine.
Dowagiac Engine 220 arrived on scene and Lt. Smith advised additional responding units of a fire on the exterior of a detached garage and lean-to structure. Dowagiac crews were able to reset the fire from the exterior so primary and secondary searches could be performed of the residence with no victims located.
Within 17 minutes of the initial alarm and report of the fire, Fire Command was able to call the fire under control and slowed responding units to non-emergency to the scene for overhaul operations. Firefighters were able to contain the bulk of the fire to the connected lean-to of the structure; however, the building did suffer minor to moderate damage from the fire. Dowagiac and Wayne Firefighters performed salvage and overhauling operations without incident. No injuries were reported throughout this incident.
The fire appears to have started outside near the lean-to of the fire building however, it is not yet confirmed as our fire investigator has not been on the scene to investigate.
Dowagiac and Wayne fire crews were assisted by SMCAS Ambulance Service and the Dowagiac Police Department.
