Milton Township crash sends three to the hospital Saturday

NILES — A two-vehicle crash in Milton Township Saturday sent three people to the hospital according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at approximately 3:44 p.m. to investigate a personal injury accident at the intersection of Gumwood Road and East Bertrand Road.
Investigation shows, a vehicle driven by Marshall Smith, of Sauk Village, Illinois, was traveling southbound on Gumwood. Smith failed to maintain his lane, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on. The second vehicle was driven by Jess Gose, of Mishawaka, Indiana, who was traveling northbound on Gumwood Road.
Smith was transported by ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Gose along with his passengers, DanYelle Watkins and a juvenile, both of Mishawaka, were also transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for their injuries sustained in the crash. This crash remains under investigation.
All involved parties wore seatbelts. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
