DOWAGIAC — Reese Maas, of Michigan Lutheran High School and Southwest Volleyball Club, has signed her National Junior College Athletic Association letter of intent to play for Head Coach Jenny Nate and the Roadrunners.
Maas joins Kallie Solloway, of Brandywine; Zyon Brazo, of Niles; Talan Hiemstra, of Marcellus; and Gia Jania, of Westville, Indiana, as the fifth member of the 2024 SMC Volleyball recruiting class.
“We are thrilled to add Reese to our 2024 fall roster,” Nate said. “She is athletic, fast, smart and can help run our team’s offense. The past two years while playing for Michigan Lutheran, Reese was all-district, all-region, and honorable mention all-state. Not only is she an incredible player, but she is also an academic leader. Reese is exactly the type of student-athlete who we want to help us continue to build a strong team, a winning record, and a championship level program on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. Reese is also currently playing club volleyball at Southwest where she will continue to prepare for her first collegiate season.”
Michigan Lutheran High School Varsity Coach, Terri Elder feels Reese will fit right in at SMC.
“Reese has been a staple for our volleyball program for the past four years,” he said. “She is a strong leader with the desire to improve and never give up. Volleyball is her passion, and she will be a great asset to SMC’s program. She will bring determination and a strong work ethic to the team. She is ready to play at the next level and I am excited to see where she goes from here.”
SMC Volleyball finished its second season after a 25-year hiatus with a record of 23-13. In 2023, the Roadrunners improved to 7-5 in the Michigan Community College Western Conference, placing third and again qualifying for the Great Lakes District Tournament.
Individual players earned eight conference and regional awards, including all-freshman team, all-conference second team, all-conference first team, all-region team and player of the year.
